Hooked on: Colour Clashing Interiors

I am a firm believer in both colour matching and colour clashing when it comes to fashion, while matching colours are classy and chic, clashing colours are usually much more fun & adds a splash of focus to the outfit.

I have always loved white interiors with pops of colour, hence more of a matching since white is such a neutral and flexible "colour". But I am so loving these bold, busy & colour clashing rooms, I may not decorate my home similar to these but the images have definitely opened up my eyes that colour clashing in home decor can be beautiful and classy too!

I would like a mixture of the two I think, a bit of match with white as the main colour & addes some fun and colour through colour clash on the decor, picture frames, objects, pillows etc... What do you all think, to clash or match?

I'm also taking part in the Hooked on House "Friday Hoooked on Party", check out what others are hooked on here.

If you have some spare time tomorrow, make sure you come & visit, I have something new to announce, think Giveaway, Jewellery & New Series maybe? ;)

Have a lovely weekend everyone! xx

I love the idea of clashing colors but I can never make it look effortless...therefore I tend to stick to matching color themes.

Happy weekend to you too - the giveaway sounds intriguing! x

These are so gorgeous. As a renter, they're definitely not possible for moi, but I LOVE that people are still bold enough to just go for it. Too many people (in Australia at least) are too concerned about the resale value of their house to do anything they actually like to it! If you're going to live somewhere for 5-10 years, make it right for YOU, not for the next person who moves in!

i say go for clashing...color tends to be an intuitive thing so if you think it works, go for it! if it becomes too crazy, you're always allowed to change your mind of throw some neutrals in for balance:)
happy weekend!

I'm so with you, Tina! I've always been a neutral color palette lover, but now I'm being called by bold colors.
Have a wonderful weekend, darling!

ooh haircuts in london? I've thought of that but I've never done it, do you have any special hairdressers you go to there? & I just love to go somewhere like covent garden to stock up on compacts and mascara...everything is all in one place there; it's lovely.
when I was little I went around adopting people as my older siblings so I don't see why not!

That striped wallpaper is simply stunning. It creates such a striking impression. Love it

oooh I soooo want to be able to pull of those stripes...lovely!!

I'm a matchy girl ... though I LOVE that stripy wallpaper and the accompanying furnishings, I think the whole room would give me a migraine after a while!

I love the walls, they look amazing. The whole design is perfect. Thank you posting this

Thank you so much for the comment! I would really like patterned wallpaper in my house and clashing is always a little more fun than matching, I think. x

Crazy for those images. I can't get enough of rooms that have a story. LOVE them! Thanks for bringing them to us today. Makes me smile!

I love how bold these rooms look. But for me, having the whole room like that is a bit too loud. That's why I love feature walls. I like the idea of having one clashy wall, with all the clashy decor around it, but then balancing out with the other walls not being loud.

oooohhhhh these wallpapers are so epic!

I always wanted a room with deep shiny navy walls and matte gold accents.

I like to visit those fun clashing colored rooms, but I think I feel more comfortable when things match a bit more. I know, I'm so boring!!!

Happy weekend, Tina.

Who knew that purple in a room would look so good??!! I love the purple and cream colored stripes in the first two rooms. Sigh, if only I could redecorate my room to look like these.

drollgirl said...

That looks cool! But I think i would get pretty sick of it after a while:) I can´t help it but I absolutely love beige and light blue coloured walls:D

oooh, i like that wallpaper in the middle pair. i'm all about clashing as long as there's some sort of continuity--we have mismatched dining chairs. have a great weekend!

Things That Inspire said...

I am so cautious in making design decisions, as I know that they will need to last a long time...so no clashing for me! I love the idea of having a little bit of contrast in fashion, though.

great pics!!! its really different from what we have in brazil :(

I have to say that coordinating colors relax me, but contrasting colors excite me! These pictures thrill me--new kind of level :)

Have a great weekend, darling! If you're interested in a cheesy/tacky postcard from Florida, let me know!

i LOVE the bold stripes of the first room.

ohmygosh, you totally reminded me that i forgot to ask for a balloon!!! i was meaning to do so, ahh that sucks, they were such cool balloons too.

MizzJ said...

Those rooms are so cool! I live in an apt, so sadly these are out of reach for me :( I also don't know if I'd be willing to commit to it since I prefer rooms that are light and airy, but that last bedroom looks very tempting. I agree that people should take more risks with their decor, after all paint is super easy to do over!

I think I'm in love. I especially adore the purple - so rich! So lavish! So royal!

like i.d. said, i don't know how to make it look "effortless"
i naturally go for matchymatchy

Noormol said...

personally, I love clashing interiors! I've never been a big fan of white walls. Although there is nothing more calming than a clean white wall.
Those wallpapers are pretty intense!

I totally adore the purple striped wallpaper - that is insane!

I am definitely a match kind of girl. In fact, I'm stunned that I love those first two images. If you'd used words to describe them I would have thought, "No way!" Instead it's marvelous. I think I may need to give this idea more thought.

Pamela Terry and Edward said...

To clash or to match??
Somewhere in the middle is best, methinks.
I do love the green wallpapered room you've posted!

Julia @ Hooked on Houses said...

What a fun post! I'm afraid I couldn't get away with rooms like this--my family would think I'd lost my mind--but they're interesting to look at and get inspiration from. Thanks! :-)

Tara @ Feels Like Home said...

wow. There is a lot of stuff going on in those photos. I prefer things to be matchy-matchy in my rooms, but maybe that's why I never get that professional look going that I hope for. :)

Why S? said...

It's a tough trick to pull off but for those who can, it's a cool look. I painted my kitchen walls purple and butter colored and have black cabinets. It works for me, for now. I found your blog through HoH. I look forward to seeing more.

Ohhh...I stumbled onto your blog from Hooked on Houses and I LOVE it! I like Clashing...or at least contrasting. I like to look at pictures of monotone rooms, but when I end up doing my own, they are usually bright and clashing. ;)
